Stop the Noise, Let's hear our own Thoughts

The Nigerian political landscape is presently saturated with endless noise from different sides of the divide - Political, Ethnic and religious divides. With each side of the divide trying so hard to outdo the other leaving a trail of distorted and disjointed pieces of information that ends up confusing their supposed audience.

The Electioneering campaigns and run up to the 2015 presidential election was characterized by endless propaganda. The People's Democratic Party (PDP) on one side and the All Progressive Congress (APC) on the other side. Their goals was simple. Discredit your opponent in the eyes of the electorate and paint yourself as the Messiah. The scale of these propaganda was mind boggling. And Never have we witnessed propaganda in such a massive scale in Nigeria.

The Elections has come and gone but the propaganda hasn't died one bit. The erstwhile opposition party, APC now that ruling party doesn't look like they are going to relent in their endless criticism of PDP's 16 years rule. While the PDP now in an unfamiliar role as opposition are bent on blowing any mistake of the APC way out of proportion. The consequence is a deliberate misinformation and confusion of the populace on the true situation of things.

The print and online media is awash with claims and counter claims on matters of National importance that an average Nigerian doesn't know what the exact facts are. From the President Buhari's Empty treasure lamentations to the alleged ramp up in the production of the refineries to the improved power situation to the anti corruption war, the parties have all come up with conflicting reports on the situation. With their numerous foot soldiers all over the social media echoing the position of the party and arguing with anybody with a different opinion.

Newspaper, TV and Radio stations no longer make efforts to get us the facts. All we get are parties' positions on issue which in most cases has been seriously watered down and modified to serve party interest and suit their agenda. The reality is that there's no serious politician and public office holder without a team of social media crusaders who protect their interests.

This is unacceptable. It is understandable that no matter how neutral/objective one may try be, our views unintentionally favors one party or the other. That notwithstanding, the political actors should tune down on the noise and propaganda and let Nigerians hear their own thoughts and form their own opinions.
